Situated at 836 meters above sea level, it is one of the most beautiful and important caves in Italy, with an underground river that forms rapids and waterfalls. It is a protected area run by the Natural Park of the Marguareis Massif.

A group of tourist walking with their guide on one of the 700 meters of accessible paths that cross the Caves of Stiffe (Grotte di Stiffe). These are a natural karst cave system located near the town of San Demetrio ne' Vestini in the Abruzzo region of central Italy, within the Sirente-Velino Regional Park. Formed by an underground river, which still flows actively through the cave, the place is known for it's spectacular waterfalls, rapids, and unique rock formations. The caves are the resurgence point of Rio Gamberale, a river that disappears into the ground upstream and reemerges here. Notable geological features include stalactites, stalagmites, and dramatic caverns shaped by centuries of water erosion.
