On April 16, 1998 it was the first building to open up as part of the modern architectural complex called City of Arts and Sciences, an entertainment-based cultural and architectural complex. The Opera bulding of Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia can be seen next to the planetarium. All buildings in the complex were designed by the Valencia-born and internationally known architect Santiago Calatrava.

Science Museum in The City of Arts and Sciences ('Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias' in Spanish) Designed by Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela, this architectural complex was started in 1996 and inaugurated April 16, 1998 with the opening of L'Hemisfèric. It consists of several buildings, including an imax cinema, an interactive science museum, a landscaped promenade with native species of Valencia, the largest oceanographic aquarium in Europe, an opera house and an exhibition hall, among others fascinating buildings that are part of the complex.
