The lion is a common symbol in heraldry. It traditionally symbolises bravery, valour, strength, and royalty as used in the Banner of Scotland and known as the Lion Rampant of Scotland.

Kotor's Old Town is filled with such historical stone carvings and coats of arms that reflect the city's rich history under various rulers - including Venetian, Austrian, and other influences over the centuries. These emblems were often placed on important buildings, gates, or walls to signify authority, ownership, or commemorate significant families or institutions.

Impressed ceramic tile of municipal arms for the Cote d'Azur resort St Tropez. The name of the town has it's origins in a macabre legend concerning Saint Torpes of Pisa in Italy. As an early Christian martyr, Torpes was a Roman soldier in service to the Emperor Nero. However the myth is a little unclear. Reliable historical sources are hard to find. The most accepted legend is that Torpes refused to renounce his Christianity, and under his full name of Caius Silvius Torpetius he was decapitated and his severed head was supposedly thrown into the river Arno in Italy and his body was set adrift in a boat with a rooster and a dog. The legend says that his body washed ashore in modern day Saint Tropez, along with the dog and bird, who had left him untouched.The citadel in the crest is the citadel that adopts the highest ground in the town looking out across the Bay and the Mediterranean. The figure is a representation of Saint Torpes and the legend translates as - loyal until the end. Good copy space.

The Angevin Castle was built in the 13th century by the Angevins above the mountainous hill of the village. In subsequent periods the castle belonged to the Caldora and Caracciolo families.
