Muttrah, Muscat, Oman: Eurasian curlew (Numenius arquata) perched on a coastal rock - large wader, a bird in the family of sandpipers and snipes (Scolopacidae). The bird lives in a variety of semi-open to open areas and feeds on small animals that it picks up from the ground with its thin beak. It is found throughout much of Eurasia, excluding large parts of East Asia. Furthermore, it lives along all coasts and in some interior areas of Africa.

A Long-billed Curlew (Numenius americanus) in the mud and shallow water of the San Jacinto Wildlife Area in Riverside County, southern California.
