St. Petersburg, Russia - August 2019: Saint Isaac's Cathedral is a large architectural landmark cathedral, completed in 1858. In 1931 the Soviet government in changed in to a museum, but it does still host the occasional church service. It is dedicated to Saint Isaac of Dalmatia, a patron saint of Peter the Great. In 2017, the Governor of Saint Petersburg offered to transfer the cathedral back to the Russian Orthodox Church, but this was rejected by the city's citizens.

Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany: the Mathildenhöhe Russian Chapel, also known as the St. Mary Magdalene Chapel, is a historic Russian Orthodox church located in the Artists' Colony. Completed in 1899, designed by architect Leon Benois, this example of Russian Revival architecture features distinctive gold onion domes. Commissioned by Tsar Nicholas II, it served as a private chapel for the Russian Imperial family during their visits to Darmstadt, the birthplace of Nicholas II’s wife, Alexandra. The chapel is renowned for its intricate design and the use of Russian stone, symbolizing the deep cultural ties between Russia and Germany. UNESCO world heritage site.
