The image was captured on grainy (ISO 400) black and white analogue film by a 35 mm old-fashioned film camera. Mesta is part of a group of villages on Chios called the mastic villages (the Mastihochoria region in Greek) because they produced and traded mastic gum from mastic trees. The houses of the village are build side-by-side to each-other, so tightly that there are only two entrances to the village (that were closed by gates at night, and when pirates approached the village). The streets are very narrow, and most of them are covered with arches and vaults. The streets form a maze to slow down any enemy that managed to enter the gates and ease the defence of the most important buildings located in the center of the village. The image is part of a series of black and white analogue photographs of picturesque Greek Island Villages on the Island of Chios.

Architectural detail from an old abandoned and partly ruined house in Greece. The image was captured on black and white grainy ISO 400 film by an analogue film camera and a short telephoto prime lens. The granularity is real film grain (due to the presence of small particles of a metallic silver on the negative). The negative was captured by a a digitizer kit connected to a 60mm f/2.8 macro lens and a full-frame DSLR camera, and converted to a positive by software. Minimal post processing has been done (only adjustment of histogram). The image is part of a series of abandoned and partly ruined houses.

The image was captured on grainy (ISO 400) black and white analogue film by a 35 mm old-fashioned film camera. Olympi is part of a group of villages on Chios called the mastic villages (including Mesta, Pyrgi, Armolia, Vessa, and other villages) because they produced and traded mastic gum from mastic trees. These villages have been added in the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO. The houses of the mastic villages are build side-by-side to each-other originally forming the outer wall of a castle with only one (as in Olympi) or just a few entrances that were closed by gates at night, and when pirates approached the village. The streets are very narrow, and most of them are covered with arches and vaults. The streets form a maze to slow down any enemy that managed to enter the gates and ease the defence of the most important buildings located in the center of the village.
