A dragonfly is an insect belonging to the order Odonata, infraorder Anisoptera. Adult dragonflies are characterized by large, multifaceted eyes, two pairs of strong, transparent wings, sometimes with coloured patches, and an elongated body.

$Field characters: 66-84mm, abdomen: 50-61mm, Hw: 45-52mm.\nBlue Emperor is presently a common species, which is only absent from parts of the northern provinces of Groningen and Friesland. It is found at most larger bodies of standing water. Compared to the pre-1990 period, the species has increased strongly.
