The conspicuous yellow spot on S7 identifies males and most females through binoculars.\nOccurrence:\nGenerally uncommon; populations are usually local and small. The most thermophilus Leucorrhinia, with a relative southern range.\nHabitat:\nGenerally inhabits less acidic and nutrient poor places than L. dubia and L. rubicunda, preferring marshy borders to bogs, forest lakes, fenlands, marshy ditches.\nVegetation is typically lush and varied, with both emergent and submerged species. The Broad-bodied chaser is a medium-sized, broad-bodied dragonfly that is on the wing from May to July, and occasionally into August. It is a common dragonfly of ponds and small lakes.

Frequently perches on the ground, among dense vegetation.\nHabitat: Bogs, ponds, tarns and lakes, usually acidic and often in forests. the larvae are sensitive to fish predation, and so the species, does better where fish are not present, such as small pools in raised bogs.\nFlight Season: From mid April to early September. In temperate lowlands, most abundant from late May to mid July.\nDistribution: often abundant species in N and E Europe, but like other Leucorrhinia species its occurrence is relictual in the south west of its range.\n\nThis is a quite common Species in the described Habitats in the Netherlands.$
