The aurora of 11/12 May 2024 was one of the most spectacular ever seen. Here it is captured in the Mackenzie district on the South Island of New Zealand, looking straight up to what appeared to be a crown directly overhead.  Beams of light radiated towards the crown. The milky way can just be seen, although it is largely hidden by the brightness of the aurora. This image forms part of a timelapse sequence.
