Focus here is on a domestic fly sheltering in a golden daffodil trumpet. Daffodil trumpets provide one of the largest - and strongest - yellows amongst the spring garden flowers of the UK. Appropriately, since the daffodil is the national flower of Wales, they start to burst their buds and sport their yellow petals around March 1st, St. David's Day.

Flies are adept at locating bird nests to lay their eggs. Once larvae hatch they feed on the blood of hatchlings, sometimes causing all of the chicks in a nest to die
