Turret detail of a main battle tank protected using explosive reactive armour (ERA). Reactive armor is a counter-measure that attempts to protect armored vehicles against anti-tank weapons using a counter-explosion. The reactive armor is placed on top of the passive steel or composite armor in the form of tiles / bricks. It consists of a layer of explosive, which is in turn covered with a metal plate. If a projectile hits the reactive armor, the explosive layer explodes and throws the metal plate towards the projectile. Originally developed by Israel and the Soviet Union.
