$A medieval gargoyle, part of the exterior stonework of Frankfurt Cathedral's spire, appearing to shout over the city.\n\nThe cathedral, including the gargoyles and other exterior features, was completed in its present form during the mid-16th Century. Following that, restorative work was undertaken in 1867 after a fire.$

A photograph of a grotesque situated on Lichfield Cathedral in Lichfield, England. The photographs of these grotesques form part of a series. These sculptures are grotesques rather than gargoyles as gargoyles are intended to be part of the water drainage system from the rooftops of churches and cathedrals. It is not known what purpose the 'grotesques' serve but they certainly get ones imagination going. Some have amusing expressions whilst others are quite hideous.

A gargoyle on the wall of Washington National Cathedral (the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in the City and Diocese of Washington) in Washington D.C. This gothic cathedral is the third-largest church building in the United States. Construction began on September 29, 1907 and did not technically end until 1990. The cathedral stands at Massachusetts and Wisconsin Avenues in the northwest quadrant of Washington.
