The crowned crane (Balearica pavonina), also known as the black-necked crowned crane, the peacock crane or the dark crowned crane, is a species of bird from the cranes family (Gruidae). It is closely related to the South African Crowned Crane (Balearica regulorum). There are two subspecies. Their distribution area is in sub-Saharan Africa

It is found in nearly all of Africa, especially in eastern and southern Africa, and it is the national bird of Uganda.
