Tourists can take horse-drawn carriage rides around Seefeld and the adjacent Lake Wildsee. Seefeld in Tirol originated as a farming community and was first mentioned in 1022. Nowadays it is better known as a tourist resort for skiing in winter and hiking in summer. It lies about 11 miles northwest of Innsbrück and has a population of approximately three and a half thousand people. This is dramatically inflated when taking into consideration the million plus overnight stays per year that it accommodates for visitors that arrive for holidays and sporting events etc. As such, it is one of the most popular resorts in Austria and has hosted several Winter Olympics. The town is situated on a Tyrolean plateau sandwiched between the Karwendel mountains to the east and the Wetterstein mountains to the west.
