People outside Galerie d’art Damgaard, opened in 1988 by Danish art critic Frédéric Damgaard, is situated on Avenue Oqba Ibn Nafiaa, directly across from the iconic clock tower in Essaouira. It was the first art gallery in the city, dedicated to showcasing self-taught local artists—painters and sculptors whose vibrant works blend Arab, Berber, African, and surreal motifs with rich, expressive colour. After Damgaard retired for health reasons, the gallery continued under the direction of Claude Jadot and Alain Graffe, preserving his mission of promoting “singular” artists from Essaouira’s cultural scene.

Ksar Haddada or Ksar Hadada is a Berber village of about 1,500 inhabitants in Tataouine Governorate in southern Tunisia. Quarrystones and clay built Ksar consisting superposed from a closed courtyard with two floors and vaulted storage chambers (ghorfas). The chambers were used as storerooms for stocks (cereals, oil, dried beans, lentils, dates, etc.) and other belongings kind (household and work tools, weapons) for the semi-nomadic (transhumance) families living situation.
