Japanese Inflator Filefish Brachaluteres ulvarum is primarily associated with the waters of the Northwest Pacific around Japan, but it has been documented in Indonesian regions such as the Lembeh Strait in North Sulawesi usually in a depth range from 25 to 30m, this 15mm specimen slightly shallower in Dendronephthya Soft Coral. \nMax. length of adults 75mm. \nThe secretive species inhabits bottoms with green seaweed on deep coastal slopes, usually among soft corals and feeds on algae and crabs. Like puffers, Brachaluteres ulvarum is capable of inflating its body. \nLembeh Strait, North Sulawesi, Indonesia \n1°27'39.69 N 125°14'33.342 E at 24m depth

An underwater macro photograph of a Yellow Goby (Lubricogobius exiguus) peeking out from inside a glass bottle on the ocean floor. The goby’s bright yellow body and emerald-green eyes stand out against the dark background, creating a striking contrast. This image symbolizes the coexistence of marine life and man-made objects, often found in tropical seas.
Michel's Ghost Goby Pleurosicya micheli occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific from the Seychelles to Hawaii in a depth range from 10-50m, usually on hard corals to 30m depth, max. length 2.5cm. Diploastrea heliopora occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific Ocean in a depth range from 3-15m from the Red Sea and East Africa to Western Australia, to the Ryukyu Islands and Fiji. The species forms dome-shaped colonies up to 2m high and 5m diameter. The surface is even, the corallites form low cones with small openings and very thick walls. The diameter of a single corallite is 8-10 millimetres. The foto was taken in the early afternoon, the tentacles are extended only at night. Palau, Micronesia, 7°5'49.729\

Wolfsnout Goby Luposicya lupus occurs in the Indo-West Pacific from Pinda in Mozambique to Indonesia, north to Japan and south/east to Tonga in a depth range from 0-15m, max. length 3.5cm. The species inhabits large sponges, usually on the underside of floppy or fan types that grow on shallow reef flats and down on slopes that are subject to moderate currents. \nThis specimen was encountered even a bit deeper than the usual max. depth at 17m. \nTriton Bay, Kaimana Regency, West Papua Province, Indonesia \n3°54'59.5859 S 134°6'6.4748 E at 17m depth

Kapalai, Malaysia, a stunning island in the Celebes Sea, is famous for its vibrant underwater ecosystems, including impressive brain corals. These corals, with their intricate, maze-like patterns, resemble the folds of a brain, which is how they got their name. Found thriving in Kapalai's crystal-clear waters, brain corals play a crucial role in the health of the reef by providing shelter and habitat for various marine species.\n\nThe calm, shallow waters around Kapalai allow divers and snorkelers to get close to these fascinating corals, observing their textures and vibrant colors. Brain corals are not only beautiful but also vital for maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems, as they help with reef building and support the biodiversity around them.\n\nThe serene surroundings and abundant marine life make Kapalai an exceptional destination for underwater exploration, with brain corals being a highlight of the region’s coral reef wonders.

Hartzfeld's Wrasse or Orangeline Wrasse Halichoeres hartzfeldii occurs in the tropical Western Pacific, north to southern Japan. As the species may ultimately be regarded as a subspecies of Halichoeres zeylonsis of the Indian Ocean, the distribution starts west at the Indonesian Mentawai Island to Australia, Micronesia, Guam and Samoa in a depth range from 10 to 85m, max. length 18cm. \n\nThe species inhabits sandy and rubble areas on seaward reefs and where it feeds mainly on crabs, snails, worms, shrimps, urchins and small fishes.\n\nThis juvenile specimen cleverly sits on the structure of a Fungia sp. Coral, which means it is hardly discovered by predators.\n\nLembeh Strait, Indonesia \n1°27'39.69 N 125°14'33.342 E at 20m depth
