A common kingfisher (Alcedo atthis).

The kingfisher, also known as the common kingfisher, is a species of bird belonging to the genus *Kingfisher* in the family Alcedinidae, order Coraciiformes. Named by the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus in 1758, this species is found along the waterways of Eurasia and Africa, primarily feeding on fish. Currently, there are seven subspecies of kingfisher, making it one of the smallest and most well-known members of the kingfisher family.
