It is winter in New Zealand and the shoreline around Lake Ruataniwha is covered in a thick hoar frost, turning everything white. This has come about due to several days of thick fog and freezing temperatures. The fog still lingers in the background. Lake Ruataniwha is situated near Twizel on the South Island of New Zealand. It's blue/turquoise color is due to the glacial flour in the water, which comes from surrounding glaciers that feed into the lake.
