Eye Castle is a basically medieval castle which was substantially renovated in Victorian times, the original castle having been mostly destroyed in 1265. It was turned into a servant’s house by Sir Edward Kerrison (whose memorial stands in the town’s market place) but ultimately fell into ruin: it is sometimes known as Kerrison’s Folly. Some remnants of the original castle remain and the site is now a Grade 1 listed building.
