Lake de Serre Poncon Alps de Haute Provence with Chapel Saint Michelle in France. The dam of Serre Ponçon is an embankment dam built between 1955 and 1960 on the Durance river in France and forms the homonymous lake of Serre-Ponçon.

$The D954 road towards Lauzet-Ubaye joins the northern shore of the Ubaye branch of the lake.\nThe photo was taken at an altitude of 945 m, looking west towards the dam.\n\n1955 marked the beginning of construction of the earth dam; work lasted five years, with the lake being filled with water in 1961. The dam's primary purpose was to generate electricity, but also to regulate the turbulent waters of the Durance and Ubaye rivers. In addition, this 28.2 km² water reserve would allow for the irrigation of fields located downstream of the dam via the Durance Canal, as well as the supply of drinking water.$
