$Flagtail Shrimpgoby Amblyeleotris yanoi occurs in the tropical Western Pacific from Bali to the Ryukyu Islands in a depth range from 3-35m, max. length 13cm for the male, 5.5cm for the female. The species is associated with Alpheus randalli, the Red-banded Alpheid Shrimp. This species has many common names like Candy Pistol Shrimp, Red Banded Pistol Shrimp or Snapping Shrimp. These shrimp make a burrow under liverock, which will be shared with a goby typically from the Amblyeleotris or Stonogobiops genera in a symbiotic relationship. Because these shrimp have poor eye sight, the goby acts as a look out for predators while the shrimp provides a home for the goby; both also benefit in sharing food resources.
