It is eated at Monument Street joining Fish Street Hill. Responsible for monument was Sir Christopher Wren, also architect of St. Paul's Cathedral which burnt in great fire from 1666.

This column marks the fire of 1666 and was completed in 1677 by Christopher Wren and Robert Hooke. It is 202 feet (62 metres) high, the same distance to Pudding Lane where the fire began.

On the right is the building housing the London Stock Exchange. The Corinthian column, made of Portland stone, was designed by the architects Whitfield Partners; it is set on a hexagonal base, and is topped by a flaming copper urn covered in gold leaf. In terms of the column's symbolism, it is generally seen as commemorating both the Great Fire of London (1666) and the period of the Blitz (1940-41), both of which destroyed the area of Paternoster Square, long famous for its booksellers and publishers. Paternoster Square was rebuilt in the 1990s, with the works on its various office buildings and squares completed in 2003.
