Whitetip Reef Shark Triaenodon obesus occurs troughout tropical and subtropical Indo-Pacific Ocean in a depth range of 1 to 330m, usually 8 to 40m.Common length 160cm, max. 213cm. The species feeds at night on octopus, reef fishes and crustaceans, being very adept at entering crevices and holes in reefs in quest of prey. The species is often seen at rest beneath ledges or in caves by day. This specimen is a male: Male cartilaginous fishes have claspers formed from the posterior portion of their pelvic fin which serve to channel semen into the female's cloaca during mating.Tumakohua Passage of South Fakarava, Tuamoto Atoll, French Polynesia 16°30'53.736 S 145°27'44.178 W at 21m depth

This nocturnal hunter is one of the most common reef sharks across the Indo-Pacific and is often encountered by scuba divers resting in caves during the day or patrolling coral reefs at night.
