Plant species of the genus Ravenala within the Strelitzia family. Perennial herb that reaches heights of 10 to 15 meters. It forms a palm-like trunk that does not become woody. Rainwater collects in the base of the leaves, which can be obtained by piercing the base of the leaf, which has given this plant species its name 'traveller's tree' as a water dispenser in times of need.
