The three-tiered aqueduct of Pont du Gard, an ancient Roman aqueduct bridge in France. It built in the first century AD to carry water over 50 km to the Roman colony of Nemausus. It crosses the river Gardon near the town of Vers-Pont-du-Gard in southern France. The Pont du Gard is one of the best preserved Roman aqueduct bridges. It was added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage sites in 1985.

Gard, France - June 1, 2014: A kayak with two paddlers heads under the Pont du Gard aqueduct. This bridge was part of the Nimes aqueduct, a 31 mile long structure built by the Romans to carry water from a spring at Uzes to the colony of Nimes. Built in the 1st century AD, the Pont du Gard is the highest of all Roman aqueduct bridges and one of the best preserved. The bridge has three tiers of arches, standing 160 ft high. The whole aqueduct descends in height by only 56 ft over its entire length, while the bridge descends by less than an inch.
