The Red Sea, Egypt, is famous for its vibrant soft corals, which create some of the most stunning underwater landscapes. Unlike hard corals, soft corals are flexible, swaying gracefully with the currents, adding a dynamic beauty to the reef. These corals, such as Dendronephthya and Sinularia, come in a range of colors, including brilliant pinks, purples, oranges, and yellows, making the Red Sea’s reefs a kaleidoscope of life.Soft corals are found in both shallow and deeper waters, thriving in the warm, clear conditions of the Red Sea. They provide vital habitat for a variety of marine life, including small fish, invertebrates, and other reef organisms, offering shelter and feeding grounds. Their soft, intricate structures also help protect the reef by contributing to the biodiversity that supports the entire ecosystem. The soft corals of the Red Sea are often seen alongside schools of colorful fish, creating a mesmerizing and tranquil underwater scene. Popular dive sites like Ras Mohammed National Park, Elphinstone Reef, and Tiran Island are known for their stunning coral gardens. For divers and snorkelers, the Red Sea’s soft corals offer an unforgettable experience, showcasing the beauty and diversity of marine life.

Feather stars look like plants, but they are animals known as echinoderms, along with sea urchins, sea stars, brittle stars and sea cucumbers. \n\nThey are invertebrates that are only found in the ocean and are known for their five-point radial symmetry and unique water vascular system. The feathery arms that typically appear in multiples of five, allow them to keep the radial symmetry echinoderms are known for. They use these plumy arms to capture plankton and other small bits of food that drift by them in the water column. And if they lose an arm to predation, they can regrow it, just like sea stars. \n\nThey have a few options to move around the sea floor. For short distances, they can use tiny leg-like appendages called cirri to inch along the substrate. They also use cirri to trap food particles they come across along the way. To move further, they can use their arms to swim in the water column. \n\nKaimer, near Tayandu Island, Indonesia\n5°8'44.496 S 132°0'46.254 E at 9m depth by night
