Although common reed is rarely used for roofing today, it grows wild in many wetlands across Denmark and is renowned for its exceptional birdlife. This photo was taken at Kalvebod Fælled, a large public parkland with horses, sheep, and cattle, as well as a rich variety of birds—just 20 minutes from Copenhagen’s City Hall Square. The Fælled was once seabed, drained in 1949, and for years served as a military training ground before being designated as parkland.
