The Jesuit missions among the Guaraní were a type of settlement for the Guaraní people in an area straddling the borders of present-day Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay (the triple frontier). The missions were established by the Jesuit Order of the Catholic Church early in the 17th century and ended in the late 18th century after the expulsion of the Jesuit order from the Americas.

Church of St. Augustine is a ruined church complex located in Old Goa. The church was completed in 1602. It was built by Augustinian friars who landed in Goa in 1587. The church was considered one of the three great Augustinian churches in the Iberian world along with El Escorial and the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora.

Missionary Francis Owen's mission is marked by the cross. Owen and his wife witnessed the execution by Zulu king Dingane of the Boer leader Piet Retief and his followers on 6 February 1838. The incident took place at the Zulu royal palace of Mgungundlovu, which Owen's mission overlooks.
