Iceberg lettuce, also known as ice lettuce, refers to several varieties of garden lettuce ( Lactuca sativa var. capitata nidus tenerimma ) with tightly closed heads ( head lettuce ). They belong to the crisphead group along with the Batavia lettuce, an older form with heads that open upwards.
