Horta, Faial Island, Azores, Portugal: the Porto Pim Whale Factory, located in the bay of Porto Pim on the slope of Monte da Guia, was an industrial facility established in its modern form between 1941 and 1942, though the site had whaling activities dating back to the late 19th century. Operated by the Sociedade Industrial Marítima Açoriana (SIMAL), founded in 1939, it processed primarily sperm whales using steam-powered machinery, including autoclaves and cookers sourced from Norwegian and German manufacturers, to extract oil, meal, and other by-products, handling up to 65 tonnes of oil and 6 tonnes of meal per operation. Over its 30-year lifespan, the factory processed about 2000 sperm whales, producing 44,000 barrels of oil until its closure in 1974. Acquired by the Regional Government of the Azores in 1980 and classified as a Property of Public Interest in 1984.

Santa Cruz, Flores Island, Azores, Portugal: the Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, serves as the principal parish church and was constructed between 1781 and 1859 on the site of a primitive temple, under the initiative of its first vicar, Father Manuel Lourenço Vieira. The church, classified as a Property of Public Interest, features significant dimensions by Azorean standards, including a principal rectangular body with a narrower chancel, two bell towers topped by bulbous octagonal cupolas, and annexes forming L-shaped extensions, all built in masonry and stonework plastered white with contrasting stone decorative elements. Architecturally Revivalist in style, it has a facade divided into three levels by cornices and vertical sections by pilasters, with ornate doorways framed by columns and lintels, guillotine windows, and an oculus.

Sao Roque Beach and its Church on Sao Miguel Island, Azores, Portugual

Horta, Faial Island, Azores, Portugal: the Porto Pim Sea Gate, also known as the Reduto da Patrulha, is located at the junction of Rua do Pasteleiro and Travessa do Porto Pim in the parish of Angústias. Built in the 17th century, it was part of the defensive complex of the Bay of Porto Pim and served to protect access to Porto Pim, the original harbor of Horta. It formed part of the fortifications coordinated by the nearby fort, which secured the anchorage. During the War of the Spanish Succession (1702–1714), it was recorded in the 1710 inventory of Azorean fortifications as the “Reduto da Patrulha.” Today, it is classified as a Property of Public Interest.
