Asbolus verrucosus (Blue Armored Desert Beetle)This species is related to the well-known Tenebrio molitor and Zophoba morio. They are robust-looking beetles with a bluish or dusty grayish color (due to a waxy coating they secrete to protect themselves from the desert sun and preserve humidity). When they get wet they acquire a blackish color (their true hue in reality). They have characteristic rough elytra. Its legs are robust and of the same color as the rest of the body. Its thorax is slightly flattened.

Eleodes (commonly known as pinacate beetles or desert stink beetles) is a genus of darkling beetles, in the family Tenebrionidae. They are endemic to western North America ranging from southern Canada to central Mexico with many species found along the Mexico-United States border. Some species have been introduced to Colombia. The name pinacate is Mexican Spanish, derived from the Nahuatl (Aztec) name for the insect, pinacatl, which translates as black beetle.
