Medium to tall, erect, hairless biennial to 1.5m, though often less; stem hollow, ridged. Leaves 2-3 pinnate, with linear-lanceolate or linear lobes. Flowers whitish or pink, 2-3mm, in rather irregular umbels with 5-6 rays; bracts usually absent. Fruit oval, 3-6mm, with slender ridges, when crushed.
