Jesus Christ with some of the saints depicted on the reredos in the Minster church of St Margaret, King’s Lynn, in Norfolk, Eastern England. Southwark Cathedral, located near London Bridge on the south bank of the Thames, is one of London’s oldest Gothic churches, with origins dating back to at least the 12th century. It became a cathedral in 1905 but was previously known as St. Saviour’s Church. The cathedral has strong literary connections—William Shakespeare’s brother is buried there, and Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales pilgrims began their journey nearby. It survived the Great Fire of London but suffered damage during World War II.
