At approximately 8:00 a.m. on September 19, 2022, the BLUE WAYS ran aground and took in water near Chengshan Town, Weihai City, due to the typhoon. There were 25 people on board in urgent need of rescue. Upon receiving a notification from the Shandong Provincial Maritime Search and Rescue Center, the North Sea Rescue Bureau of the Ministry of Transport dispatched the professional rescue vessel Beihaijiu 111 and the rescue helicopter B-7126 to the scene. At the time, the accident site experienced a northerly wind of force 8 and wave heights of 2–3 meters.
