The Zermatt ski area is huge. It includes not only the Plateau Rosa area, behind the famous Matterhorn, but also extends in the direction of Monte Rosa on the other side of the valley. And it is connected to the Italian ski resort of Cervinia. Here we are on the Plateau Rosa glacier, just a few hundred meters from the Italian border. The peak below the sun is the Kleine (little) Matterhorn (mt. 3883), where the cable car arrives and from where it is possible to ski down to the Italian resort of Cervinia. On the left there is the first Breithorn peak of Monte Rosa massif, standing on the border between Italy and Switzerland (this is the Swiss side).
