The Blue Spiny Lobster Panulirus versicolor is a species of spiny lobster that occurs in the shallow tropical waters of the Western Pacific and the Indian Ocean, mostly in a depth range from 0-40m sometimes much deeper, max. length 40cm. The species has no claws, two spiny rostra over the eyes, and two pairs of large antennae, like all spiny lobsters. Panulirus versicolor is nocturnal and solitary, in daytime hiding in caves (like this specimen on the ceiling of a quite deep tunnel) and crevices in reefs or under coral. The species is carnivore, eating both carrion and fresh caught arthropods, other crustaceans, occasional small fish.
