Inside and outside the building many artists have set up their coloured ateliers, full with paintings, sculptures and all kinds of artistic installations. It consists of a series of murals painted directly on a 1316 m long remnant of the Berlin Wall, located near the centre of Berlin. The Gallery consists of 105 paintings by artists from all over the world, painted in 1990 on the east side of the Berlin Wall. The actual border at this point had been the river Spree.
