Male brown-headed cowbird in evergreen. The cowbird makes no nest. Instead the female lays eggs in nests of other birds, often tossing out the original eggs. Some bird species toss out the cowbird eggs or build a new nest atop the old one; others raise the cowbirds. Native to the Great Plains, cowbirds have spread coast-to-coast as humanity has cleared land. They often follow cattle, feeding on bugs. Generally an unwelcome visitor to bird feeders. The range between the cowbird's high and low notes is the largest of any bird.

$Wire-tailed Swallow.\nThe wire-tailed swallow (Hirundo smithii) is a small passerine bird in the swallow family. It has two subspecies: H. s. smithii, which occurs throughout Africa, and H. s. filifera, which is found in southern and southeastern Asia. It is mainly resident, but populations in Pakistan and northern India migrate further south in winter. The genus name Hirundo is the Latin word for swallow. The species name smithii commemorates Christen Smith, a Norwegian botanist and geologist.$
