The Cambodian Royal Palace in the capital Phnom Penh is a complex of buildings where the Royal Family of the Kingdom of Cambodia was built more than a century ago to serve the accommodation and activities of the king, the king's family and other officials. For foreign visitors, this place is also the place where court ceremonies, diplomatic ceremonies and royal festivals take place. The Kings of Cambodia have lived in this palace since its construction in 1866, except for a period of hiatus when the country was under Khmer Rouge rule.
