Small bird, its average size is 21.5 to 28.5 cm (males) and 22 to 25 cm (females). It weighs between 110 and 285 g (males) and between 150 and 265 g (females). It has a round head, without plumes and the eyes are arranged side by side, in the same plane. The eyebrows are white and the eyes are yellow. The coloration is earthy, mimetic, and may present plumage in rusty tones caused by purple earth soils (adventitious coloration).
