the pilosocereus gounellei species is popularly known as xique xique cactus. the xique-xique is part of the characteristic vegetation of the caatinga, the only uniquely brazilian biome. xique-xique is a typical Brazilian plant, occurring naturally in the states of the northeast region of the country, in areas with a semi-arid climate.
