Egg Cowrie Ovula ovum occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific in a depth range from 0 to 20m, max. length 11cm. \n\nEgg capsules are laid in a pattern of almost equally distanced rows. Each whitish capsule is firmly attached to the substratum (in this case Sinularia Leather Coral). The final shape of the capsule mass is usually rounded and the female moves away from it as soon as it is deposited. The capsules are translucent in the beginning, becoming yellowish and more opaque during the development of the embryos. \n\nEach capsule measures ca 4 mm wide and 5 mm high and contains about 150 to 200 embryos in an intracapsular fluid. \n\nThe early stages end with late gastrula after 3 days, some 10 hours after hatching from the fertilization envelope, followed by the trochophore stage (cilia for swimming and feeding) and the veliger stage (shell and velum for mobility and feeding), which last about 20 days before the pelagic phase ends.\n\nLembeh Strait, North Sulawesi, Indonesia \n1°29'43.194 N 125°15'44.364 E at 14m depth
