The greylag goose, Anser anser is a species of large goose in the waterfowl family Anatidae and the type species of the genus Anser. Here flying in the air.

Stevige bruingrijze gans, de grootste van alle bruingrijze ganzensoorten. Hals en kop iets lichter dan het lichaam. Ook de ondervleugels vormen een goed kenmerk. Deze zijn tweekleurig: donker met een lichtgrijze voorkant. Bij ganzen zijn de kleur van poten en snavel belangrijk: bij de grauwe gans zijn snavel en poten oranjeroze. De snavel is stevig en wordt wel eens vergeleken met een winterpeen.
