Gray wolves (Canis lupus) are highly social and intelligent predators that once roamed vast regions across North America, Europe, and Asia. As apex predators, they play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance by regulating prey populations, such as deer and elk. Gray wolves live in structured packs, typically led by an alpha pair, and communicate through vocalizations, body language, and scent marking. Their thick fur, which varies in color from gray to black and white, helps them survive in diverse habitats ranging from forests and tundra to grasslands and mountains. Once hunted to near extinction in many areas, conservation efforts have helped some populations recover, though they continue to face threats from habitat loss and human conflict.
