Lake Yellowstone, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA: Stevenson Island is a small landmass located near the northern shore of Yellowstone Lake. The island, roughly 1 kilometer long, is named after Colonel James D. Stevenson, a member of the 1871 Hayden Geological Survey that helped document the park’s features before its establishment. It is primarily covered with lodgepole pine and surrounded by shallow waters. Remnants of a steamboat, the E.C. Waters, which operated briefly on Yellowstone Lake in the early 1900s, remain on its shore as a historical artifact.
