The white rhinoceros (or square-lipped rhinoceros, Ceratotherium simum) is the largest of all the rhinos, weighing up to around two tonnes. Like its relatives it is a threatened species due to game hunting and poaching, where the horns (consisting of hair) are sold to Eastern countries. In an effort to preserve the species, horns are often cut off, though this single male has a horn showing some regrowth. The animal is yawning, drawing in breath.
