The photo was taken in Yugang Grottoes, Shanxi Province in August this year. Yungang Grottos is one of the three major grotto sites in China. Representing the highest level of world carved art in the fifth century, and considered to be exemplary Chinese Buddhist art work at its finest. Comprising 252 caves and niches and 51000 statues with a carved area of 18000 square meters. A historical milestone fused by Chinese and Western culture in the fifth century A.D. The Buddha status here are well-preserved and uniquely shaped, making it an immersive journey.

Buddha in Cave 6, one of the richest of the Yungang sites. It was constructed between 465 and 494 C.E. by Emperor Xiao Wen. The entire interior of the cave is carved and painted. The walls of the upper stories are host to carvings of standing Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and monks among other celestial figures. Yungang Grottoes, are excellent examples of rock-cut architecture and one of the three most famous ancient Buddhist sculptural sites of China. The others are Longmen and Mogao.

Dunhuang, China - August 04, 2011: Buddha statite in Mogao caves are considered one of the most important collections of Buddhist art. At its peak during the Tang dynasty the site housed 18 monasteries, 1400 monks and nuns, and countless artists, translators and calligraphers. Currently there are more than 490 caves. Dunhuang is an oasis city that was a major stop on the ancient Silk Road and is best known for the spectacular sand dunes and their sound when whipped off by the wind, the Crescent Lake oasis, and the Mogao Caves.
