Detail of the Arc de Triomphe. The Arc de Triomphe is one of the most famous monuments in Paris, France, standing at the western end of the Champs-Élysées at the centre of Place Charles de Gaulle. The Arc de Triomphe honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, with the names of all French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Le Départ de 1792 (or La Marseillaise), by François Rude. The sculptural group celebrates the cause of the French First Republic during the 10 August uprising. Above the volunteers is the winged personification of Liberty. This group served as a recruitment tool in the early months of World War I and encouraged the French to invest in war loans in 1915–1916.

This bridge was built under the emperor Hadrian in 134 AD. to connect the heart of Rome with his mausoleum, currently Castel Sant'Angelo. A few centuries later, under the pontificate of Pope Clement IX, the architect and sculptor Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini was commissioned to create the current balustrade decorated with ten statues of the Angels of the Passion of Christ. According to tradition, it was Bernini's pupils who sculpted the statues of the Angels in 1669. In 1980 the historic center of Rome was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. The Palazzo Pitti (Pitti Palace), is a Renaissance palace in Florence, Italy. It was originally the town residence of banker Luca Pitti. The palace was bought by the Medici family and became the residence of the ruling families of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. It grew as a great treasure house as later generations amassed paintings, plates, jewelry and luxurious possessions. The palace and its contents were donated to the Italian people by King Victor Emmanuel III. The palazzo is now the largest museum complex in Florence.
