It is a part of the municipality of Zeist, and lies about 6 km east of Zeist. \n\nIn 1804, an army camp was established at the site, called French camp. The town was founded on 17 August 1806 on the location of the camp. It was given its name by King Louis Napoleon of Holland in honour of the victory of his brother, emperor Napoleon in the Battle of Austerlitz. In 1840, it was home to 233 people.\n\nClose to the town, there is an artificial hill called the Pyramid of Austerlitz , actually part of the municipality Woudenberg. It used to have a wooden obelisk, but was removed in 1808 due to instability. In 1894, a stone obelisk added to the top.

The Commonwealth War Cemetery Brunssum contains the burials of the British soldiers who died in the Second World War in the Brunsum area.\n\nBrunssum was liberated in September 1944 by U.S. forces; they were shortly afterwards followed by the British 43rd (Wessex) Division, who made their headquarters in the town, and in turn were succeeded by the 52nd (Lowland) Division.

Rittersturz is the memorial site for the German constitution written after WW2 in one of the remaining hotel above the destroyed city Koblenz. The hotel Rittersturz is long gone, only some stones symbolize the originatl 10 districts

Boundary stone in nature reserve the Wooldse veen on the Southeast side of the municipality of Winterswijk in the Netherlands to the border with Germany. This peat moor area is dissected by the border between the Netherlands and Germany. Therefore there are many boundary stones to be found in this nature reserve.
