Nafplio, Greece - September 13, 2011: An elderly Gypsy woman is sitting on the street of Nafplio, Greece and has a young boy laying with her. She is looking towards the camera. The boy is holding a plastic cup to get money and is facing away from the camera. The gypsy woman seems to be using the young child to manipulate people in order to get more money. The elderly woman and child both have bare feet. The woman has a head scarf on. Nafplio is a beautiful Peloponnese city. One can see the nice sidewalk, wine racks, Greek jewelry and cafe in the background. The beauty of the Nafplion city is in stark contrast to the poverty depicted by this gypsy elderly woman and child.

Her right arm and cupped hand are fully extended upward as people ascend the steps past her. She sits with her body facing the camera, sideways to the steps, but with her head turned and her gaze following her extended hand, a sad, pleading expression on her face. In this vertical composition she appears just below center frame, some twenty feet from the camera. Stone steps form the foreground bottom and left of frame - with a sliver of a passerby along the left margin to suggest a rejection in this donation request. Her backdrop is a white concrete church retaining wall. Along the extreme right margin is a sliver of gate to balance the passerby opposite. This woman has a beautiful and expressive face, showing tremendous, interesting character. She wears a green buttoned sweater over a full-length lavender dress, and sandals.
